HOOSIER SHOOTOUT |
The Bison Red reached the semifinals of the Hoosier Shootout held in Indianapolis, Indiana from July 6 - 9, 2011. Competing with 67 other teams, the Reds were 2 - 1 in pool play. In the tournament, the Reds garnered an easy 86 - 58 first round victory over CMAS Elite (Michigan team). The Bison pulled out a close 76 - 75 win over ACB Bankhoops Gold (Michigan team) when John Harris scored off an inbounds pass from Trey Moore with 10 seconds left. The Nebraskans fell short of the championship game, losing to The Truth (Indiana team) 59 - 74 in the semifinals.

Highlights: Lincoln High's John Harris was 10-for-13 from the field to lead Bison Red to the win in the opening game of the 68-team Hoosier Shootout tournament. Harris scored 15 points in the second half. Post player Jake Maslo added 14 points and six rebounds, while Alex Starkel added 13. Both Maslo and Starkel were 6-for-8 from the field as Bison Red shot 57 per cent. Trey Moore had five assists and five steals while Ethan Montalvo had five assists and four steals. Deondre White added six assists.

Highlights: Bison Red let a 12-point second-half lead slip away in the loss to a select team from Michigan. A 18-3 run in the first half wiped out a five-point deficit, but Bison Red committed 10 turnovers in the second half and made only 8 of 22 field goals. Overall, Bison Red shot 39 per cent from the field. Bison Red led 44-32 with 10:34 left in the game, but a 23-11 ACB run tied the game with 1:45 left. Bison Red failed to make a field goal in the final 2:45 of the game and missed three of four free throws in the last 1:34. Jake Maslo had 14 points and seven rebounds, while Keithan Karn was 4-for-6 from beyond the arc. Trey Moore had five assists and two steals. |

Jake Maslo added 15 points. Ethan Bison Red shot 50 per cent from the field.

Highlights: A 19-point halftime lead evaporated in the second half, but Bison Red rallied from a six-point deficit with less than four minutes to play to pull out the win and advance to the semifinal round. Bison Red made 21 of 40 field goals in the first half while building a big lead, but managed to make only 8 of 27 in the second half as the team from Michigan battled back. A layup by John Harris off an out of bounds pass from Trey Moore with 10 seconds left in the game proved to be the winning basket. ACB got off a pressured shot at the buzzer, but the ball never reached the rim. Harris scored a game-high 21 points and blocked four shots, while Jake Maslo added 12 points and 15 rebounds. Jordan Schroer was 3-for-5 from beyond the arc and added 11 points. Trey Moore had five assists.< |

Highlights: Bison Red was unable to recover from a poor-shooting first half (10-for-36) and a 33 per cent effort for the game. Bison Red trailed by 20 with 2:16 left in the first half, but closed to within 10 with 10:03 left in the game. The Truth, comprised of players from the Indianapolis area, answered with a 7-0 run and Bison Red never got closer than 15 the rest of the game. John Harris scored 14 points, Ethan Montalvo added 13, and Deondre White had 12 to lead Bison Red. Trey Moore had five steals. The Truth shot 55 per cent from the field and made 10 of 25 from beyond the arc. The loss kept Bison Red from reaching the championship game of the Silver Division and left them with a 4-2 tournament record. |
