The NBCA Player and Coach of the Year are chosen by a vote of the Nebraska Basketball Coaches Association members each year. The winners are recognized over the Memorial Day weekend during the Junior Tournament. All coaches who are members of the NBCA are eligible to be nominated by their peers.

The Nebraska Basketball Development Association, Inc., with total funding from the families of Dean and Patty Muhleisen, offers one scholarship of $500 to the college attended by a senior who has participated in the NBDA-sponsored athletic programs. This scholarship is given in memory and honor of Dean and Patty Muhleisen. They were avid supporters of the sport of basketball and the NBDA. This scholarship has been developed to help support a student athlete who has committed to enrolling as a full-time student at a two or four year institution. All applicants need to be in need of financial assistance (not on a full-ride scholarship); possess basketball ability while showing good sportsmanship and a passion for the game; and having demonstrated qualities of leadership, character, citizenship, and academic ability. Applications are sent out to senior student-athletes who then proceed by filing the information. The applications are then screened by the Muhleisen family and a NBDA Scholarship Committee. The winner of this scholarship award is also recognized over Memorial weekend.

All winners - NBCA Player of the Year, NBCA Coach of the Year, and the Muhleisen Scholarship recipient - are awarded a plaque from the NBDA which cites their achievements.
