On Memorial Day weekend, from May 22nd to May 25th, 40 teams came to Lincoln to compete in the 2009 Bison / Runza Freshman All-Star Tournament. The teams were divided into 10 pools of 4 teams each and then seeded into a Championship Tournament (top 20 teams) and a Consolation Tournament. Norfolk claimed the top seed in the Championship Tournament while North Platte became the #1 seed for the Consolation Tournament. North Platte went on to win the Consolation Title with a 50 - 46 victory over Fairbury. The 2009 Championship was won by Sarpy County who defeated Norfolk 50 - 38 in the title game.
