Indiana Shootout at Indianapolis, Indiana; July 6 - 9, 2010
The Bison Red came within a point of reaching the championship game at the Indiana Shootout. The Reds finished second in their pool with a 2 - 1 record and then downed the All Iowa Attack 79 - 49 in the first round of the tournament. In the quarter-finals the Reds prevailed over Tru Playaz BBC (OH), 48 - 35. The semi-final game against Shining Stars (OH) went to overtime and the cold shooting Bison were edged from the tournament 48 - 47.

Highlights: Bison Red overcame a 14-point first-half deficit to win the opening game of pool play. A 20-5 run that stretched from the final three minutes of the first half into the first seven minutes of the second half turned the momentum and Bison Red never trailed again after taking a 47-44 lead on a three-point play by Derrius Vick with 7:53 left in the game. Bison Red made 20 of 23 free throws in the second half and 26 of 31 in the game. Vick led all scorers with 17 points, including 12 in the second half. Reath Jiech added 14 points and 14 rebounds, DK Augustine had 12 points and Galen Gullie added 10 points, four assists, and two steals. One of Gullie's steals came with 34 seconds left and Bison Red hanging on to a four-point lead. Gullie was fouled after the steal and he made both free throws to help seal the win. Bison Red shot only 35 per cent from the field, but the 83 per cent effort from the free throw line helped offset the shooting slump.

*Highlights: Bison Red made only 5 of 28 field goals in the first half and never recovered. After a 35 per cent shooting effort in a morning win, Bison Red dropped to 34 per cent from the field in the double-digit loss. Reath Jiech led the squad with 12 points while Derrius Vick and Dylan Heath added 10 each. Jiech pulled down seven rebounds.

*Highlights: After struggling from the field in its first two pool games, Bison Red shot 50 per cent and finished second in its pool with the win over Michigan BBC. The win advanced the Red into the tourney's Gold Division. Ethan Brozek of Norfolk Catholic had a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds. Derrius Vick led all scorers with 18 points on 7-of-11 field goal shooting, while DK Augustine added 17 points. Vick also pulled down seven rebounds. Quentin Urban of Millard South had four assists.

*Bison Red shot 55 per cent from the field and outrebounded Iowa 37-27 to advance to the tournament's quarterfinal round. Lincoln Southeast's Derrius Vick led all scorers with 20 points on 8-for-15 shooting, including 4 of 9 from 3-point range. Reath Jiech of Omaha Bryan added 16, Bryan's DK Augustine had 12 and Bryan's Galen Gullie added 10.

*Bison-Nebraska Red won its third game of the day and advanced to the quarterfinal round of the 36-team tournament with the win Wednesday night. Dylan Heath scored nine of his team-high 13 points in the first half. Three-pointers by Heath and Quentin Urban closed out the first half and Bison Red led by at least six points the rest of the game. Reath Jiech pulled down nine rebounds and Derrius Vick had three assists and three steals. Bison Red is 4-1 in the tournament.

*Bison Red was eliminated from the Hoosier Shootout after giving up a 13-point lead in the second half. Shooting problems that appeared in the first two games of the tournament surfaced again in the sixth game as Bison Red had just one field goal in the final eight minutes of regulation and did not score from the field in the two-minute overtime period. Bison Red made 3 of only 7 field goal attempts in the second half. Three missed free throws in the final minute of regulation also allowed the Shining Stars to force the extra period. Bison Red will take an overall summer record of 6-4 into the King James Classic tournament in Chicago with the first game of pool play scheduled for 8:30 p.m. tonight.
