Bison Red .500 in LV
The NBDA Bison Reds won two of their three pool games at the "Summer Championships" in Las Vegas. After losing to Branch West (California) in the first game, the Bison defeated Petersburg Elite (Virginia) and West Side Hoops (Washington) to claime first place in the pool. The Reds were defeated in the first round of the tournament, 53 - 74 by Maryland. Dwight Smith (Ralston) set a new NBDA Red record, scoring 20.2 points per game.

Highlights: Bison Red led for most of the first half, but a 11-1 run in the final four minutes of the half gave Branch West a 31-26 lead at the break and Bison Red never recovered. A 3-pointer by Dane Bacon brought Bison Red to within a point with 8:05 left in the game, but an 18-7 run over the next four minutes boosted Branch West's lead to 12. For the third straight game, Bison Red struggled from the field, making 19 of 48 field goals for 39 per cent. Greg Smith scored 11 of his game-high 20 points in the first half. Jake Marvin pulled down seven rebounds and blocked two shots.

Highlights: Bison Red used a 12-0 run late in the game to erase a five-point deficit. Dane Bacon and Pete Uhing were 3-for-5 from 3-point range to help a 9-for-18 team effort from beyond the arc. Greg Smith had team highs of 13 points and 10 rebounds.

Highlights: Greg Smith fell two points short of matching the NBDA program record for points in a game as the Ralston senior-to-be was 8 for 16 from the field and 13 of 18 from the free throw line. Smith scored 20 points in the second half and Drew Sankey provided big rebounds down the stretch. Dwight Smith, Greg's brother, added 10 points. Steville Burns had three assists and five steals. Bison Red was 27-36 from the free throw line. The win secured first place in the pool and sent Bison Red into the final 64 teams of the Open Division.

*Highlights: Bison Red sprinted to an 11-3 lead in the first four minutes of the game, but struggled for the rest of the first half as Maryland went on a 31-11 run. Bison Red never got closer than 10 points the rest of the game. Bison Red finished the game making just 4 of 23 (17 per cent) from beyond the arc and shot 41 per cent from the field while committing 23 turnovers. The loss eliminated Bison Red from the tournament with a 2-2 record. Greg Smith, who scored a team-high 19 points, broke the Nebraska Basketball Development Association's per-game scoring average record of 19.5, set in 1989 by Mike Mueller of Columbus. Smith averaged 20.2 points per game for four games.
