BISON RED WIN CHAMPIONSHIP
The Bison Red went undefeated in pool play and then won two tournament games to claim the Alegent Hoops Festival Championship. The Reds closest game was their final pool game against the Omaha Crusaders when they prevailed 61 - 60. They faced the same Crusader team in the Championship and won an easier victory, 65 - 44. It was the Bison's second consecutive title at the Omaha tournament and its third in the last four years.
POOL PLAY -- 4 - 0 TOURNAMENT
Bison-Nebraska Red opened its summer tournament schedule with a 89-72 win over Team Nebraska Thursday night at the Alegent Health Tournament, held at UNO's Sapp Fieldhouse.
 
Bison-Red led 62-47 with 11 minutes left in the game, but Team Nebraska cut the lead to three with five minutes remaining. A 14-0 run to close out the game sealed the win for Bison-Red.
 
Ralston's Greg Smith scored 16 of his team-high 18 points in the first half on 4 of 5 shooting from the field and an 8-for-8 effort from the free throw line. Steville Burns of Omaha Benson added 16 points as he made 10 of 13 free throws.
 
Bison-Nebraska Red made 26 of 48 field goals for 54 per cent and outrebounded Team Nebraska 35-27. Greg Smith, Iske and Pete Uhing each grabbed six rebounds.

Highlights: Bison Red used a 12-0 run late in the game to seal the win. Pete Uhing started the run with a 3 and Dane Bacon ended it, also with a 3. The other six points came on conventional three-point plays by Kyle Iske and Greg Smith. Drew Sankey pulled down seven rebounds.

Highlights: Drew Sankey deflected a pass and Steville Burns took it the length of the court for the winning layup with six seconds left in the game. A hurried shot at the buzzer was off the mark for the Crusaders Alumni. Greg Smith scored a team-high 24 points on 9 of 13 shooting. Sankey pulled down eight rebounds.

Highlights: Dwight Smith made two free throws with 20 seconds left in the game. The Crusaders missed two field goals in the closing seconds. Greg Smith blocked four shots and Drew Sankey grabbed seven rebounds. Bison Red trailed 56-53 with five minutes left, but a 3 by Taylor Price, two free throws by Dwight Smith and a field goal by Kyle Iske put Bison Red ahead 60-56. The Crusaders regained the lead with 45 seconds remaining, setting the stage for Dwight Smith's free throws. Bison Red was 7 for 7 from the free throw line.

Highlights: Bison Red sprinted to a 10-0 lead and never looked back as it advanced to the championship game. Team Nebraska used a 11-2 run to open the second half to slice Bison Red's lead to nine, but Bison Red closed out the final 13 minutes of the game with a 33-16 run. Millard West's Kyle Iske led all scorers with 21 points. Greg Smith of Ralston scored 14 points and pulled down nine rebounds. Pete Uhing of Lincoln High had five assists.

Highlights: The second meeting of the tournament between the two teams failed to resemble the 62-61 Bison Red win in pool play. The Crusaders tied the game at 28 with 12:23 left, but Bison Red went on runs of 12-3 and 19-2 to pull away. Pete Uhing and Taylor Price each scored 15 points and combined to make 6 of 6 from 3-point range in the second half. All of Uhing's points came in the second half while Price scored just two points in the first half. Greg Smith drained back-to-back 3s in the second half to help erase a four-point Crusaders' lead. Bison Red was 8 for 9 from beyond the arc in the second half. The win gave Bison Red its second straight Alegent Health title and its third in the last four years.
