Golds Struggle in K.C.
The Bison Golds could only manage one victory at the K. C. Prep Invite in Kansas City. The lone victory came in the Gold's second pool game, a close 47 - 44 win over Dakota Schoolers. With a 1 - 2 record in pool play, the Bison Gold finished summer play in a consolation game, losing to KC Tar Heels, 51 - 57.

The Bison Gold lost their first game of pool play to the All Iowa Attach Gold team 56-52. After trailing by 15 points in the first half the Bison Gold made a run at the end of the first half to trail by only two points. At the beginning of the second half the Bison Gold opened up an early 5 point lead at 33-28. From there the Iowa Attach went on a 14-0 run to lead the Gold's by nine points. Again the Gold's closed the margin to two points but could not get over the hump to regain the lead. Key free throw shooting by the Iowa Attach at the end of game sealed the victory. Derek Shouse led the Gold with 15 points. The Gold will play another pool game Tuesday afternoon.

The Bison Gold won the second game of pool play with a 47-44 victory over the Dakota Schoolers. After trailing in the first half by a score of 23-9 the Bison Gold went on a 14-2 run and ended the first half trailing by two points. In the second half an early scoring outburst had the Gold up 33-29 but the Schoolers went on a 10-0 run to lead by six points with 4:30 to go in the game. The Gold tighten the defense and finally took the lead 43-41 with 33 seconds to go with Mickey Russell hitting two key free throws. The Schoolers missed a three point shot with 3 seconds to go and Mickey Russell hit the final free throw to end the game. Coach Mike Baker was quoted as saying that an “Ugly win is better than a pretty loss.” Dylan Heath led the Bison Gold with 15 points while Ethan Brozek added 9

The Bison Gold lost their last pool game to the ST Louis Gateway 63-59. After failing to score the during the first four minutes of the first half and falling behind 9-0 the Bison Gold finish with a strong run to finish tied in the first half. After gaining a four point lead in the second half the Bison Gold fell behind by as many as nine points in the second half. Trailing 56-50 with under two minutes to go Darius Vick hit two straight three point shots to tie the game at 56-56. After a Gateway score Derek Shouse hit a 3 point shot with under 30 seconds to play but the Gateway scored on two free throws to take the lead 60-59 with 13 seconds remaining. The Gold had a chance to win the game but a three point attempt by Darius Vick bounced off of the rim and the Gateway made two free throws to close out the scoring. The Bison Gold was led in scoring by Derek Shouse and Dylan Heath each with 10 points.

The Bison Gold lost their final game of the summer season 57-51 to the KC Tarheels. After leading 23-19 at half the Tarheels scored the first 8 points of the second half and never looked back. During the second half the Bison Gold failed to get over the hump. Missed layups, poor free throw shooting lead to the final score. The Gold's leading scorer was Darius Vick with 17 followed by Derek Shouse with 9. The Gold finished with a 10-8 record for the summer.
